The Bone Broth Bounty
Bone broth, often simmered from big marrow bones and joint ends with cartilage, offers a plethora of nutrients that can work wonders for your dog's health:
Crafting the Perfect Bone Broth
Ingredients:
- Big marrow bones, chicken or fish carcass
- Joint ends with cartilage
- Kale (rich in vitamins A, C, and K, and iron)
- Celery (for added vitamins and easy digestion)
- Ginger (soothing to the bowel and aids digestion)
- Shiitake mushrooms (packed with cancer-fighting compounds)
- Carrots (a source of beta-carotene for eye and liver health)
- Parsley (a blood tonic and source of vitamin C)
- Organic raw apple cider vinegar (helps dissolve minerals from bones)
- Water
Instructions:
- Place the marrow bones and joint ends in a large pot or chicken or fish carcass (depending on your preferences).
- Add water to cover the bones, and a splash of organic raw apple cider vinegar.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a low simmer.
- Add the remaining ingredients - kale, celery, ginger, shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and parsley.
- Let the mixture simmer for a glorious 24 hours. This slow cooking extracts the maximum nutrients from the ingredients.
- Once done, strain the broth, removing any chunks and veggies. The liquid gold that remains is your bone broth!
Note: If you're short on time for preparation, you can combine all the ingredients and utilize a slow cooker with a "double boiling" system for cooking.
